January tends to be a month where people pack in their bad food habits and begin healthy diets in tandem with New Year goals. While this can seem a difficult phase for us who are in a position to give up food, locally there are people who often have to go hungry without choice. In Glascote alone, 30% of children are living in families that are below the poverty line!
On Friday 29th January, our employees thought about those in need and held a food drive to support the work of Tamworth Foodbank. The centre provides emergency food for local people in crisis, and was the first cause chosen for a series of charity days that we will continue to hold monthly throughout the New Year.
The day was a huge success and the sheer generosity was overwhelming. We donated mostly dried pasta, baked beans, tinned tomatoes and soup and an abundance of other tinned goods such as fruit, spaghetti and vegetables. We also donated plenty of bags for life which are also much in need by the Tamworth Foodbank.
The food was packed up and delivered to Tamworth Foodbank at the Manna House Church Centre in Glascote. They were extremely grateful and the food will be used to offer 3 days emergency food to families. Visit the Tamworth Foodbank website to find out more about what they do and how you can get involved.
